Bands I would like a new album from… but unlikely (?)

This is a list containing bands that have given us great works. I would surely like a new album from all of them and the chances of this happening range from slightly possible to not gonna happen:

Lost Horizon

Daniel Heiman has returned to action recently in bands like Warrior Path and Sacred Outcry, but nothing compares with the greatness of the two Lost Horizon albums. The very increased speed of some songs was tailored for that voice, while the slower moments were awesome as well. If they did not stop at two albums and continued on the same path, they would be among the best today. At some point in 2008 we saw some movement that pointed to a new record, but nothing really happened.

Bane of Winterstorm

This band came like a very impressive firework and before you could see them, they disappeared. Their music was a super aggressive version of Rhapsody, they released one full length and one EP and when we waited for their next, super promising album, they dissapeared. Sad, because if there is one thing I cannot resist, that’s Thrash-y Rhapsody! Just listen to And the Kingdom Fell and tell me you are not interested!

The Agonist

This one hurts a little. Orphans saw the band back on track, with Vicky on vocals this time and it was succeeded by an equally great EP. I even had the luck to see them live and they nailed it. They had found their footing, if they released new music I am sure it would shred. Unfortunately modern times are not gentle for a touring metal band, something that eventually led to their split-up.

Zero Gravity

Essentially I am talking about Turilli/Lione Rhapsody. They wanted to use the name Zero Gravity, but with the labels insisting that the name Rhapsody should be present, they had not much of a choice. I can talk without stop about the musical genius that is Luca Turilli, and while Zero Gravity had some issues, it contained the true spirit of Rhapsody while trying something new. The maestro is now focusing on some non metal projects, but if he will ever return to metal, he will use the name he intended to. This one is somewhat possible to see the light of day in the future and I cannot wait to see what Luca might create. He will have completed his non metal adventures, he will be free to create without restrictions and if someone can innovate the genre, that’s him.

Domine

They have created some legendary albums, especially the first two Champion Eternal and Dragonlord. Since their 5th studio work Ancient Spirit Rising in 2007 Domine have not released anything new, however they never disbanded, as we are honored with occasional live performances. This situation continues for the last 17 years, which means that if they worked one banger song every two years, we would be on the verge of receiving the best 9-track record ever!!! Back to reality, I believe many of their fans would desperately want a farewell album when they choose to hang their weapons.

Ancient Rites

Their album Rubicon is one of my all time favorite albums. It took 9 years for the follow-up Laguz to arrive in 2015. Considering the band is still active and another 9 years have passed without new music, should we have our hopes raised for another studio comeback? Their later period’s musical style is very unique and for the lack of an alternative, a potential return will be more than welcome.

Hell

We are talking about a band that initially had only released some demos during the 80s. Fast forward to 2011 where a Full Length album becomes a reality. Human Remains was a good album, but personally it was its 2013 successor Curse & Chapter that shook me. Don’t know why, perhaps because apart from containing well played Heavy Metal, it was also very theatrical thanks to singer David Bower who happened to be an actor as well. While they sowed the seeds for a very promising career, Andy Sneap declared that there will be no future for Hell.

Messiah Marcolin

Not a band (that’s a cheat!) but I would take any new music that would feature Marcolin as a singer. Known for his time at Memento Mori but most importantly, Candlemass, I have him as my favorite Doom vocalist of all time. Not only did his voice need just one second to leave no hair unraised, his live performances were pure gold! He was really passionate in everything he did, a true legend! Unfortunately all that talent has not been utilized, as after a brief guest appearance in Amon Amarth’s song Hel in 2013, he has not recorded anything since.

Wuthering Heights

This band was a hidden gem, especially their 3 last records were criminally good. It is also the band that allowed Nils Patrik Johansson to fully unfold his singing talents. Unfortunately in 2011, mastermind Erik Ravn faced some health issues that made it impossible for the band to continue. Recently they have resurfaced by reissuing some of their back catalog, but without news of any new music in the works. One can hope…

Savatage

The clock has stopped in 2001 for Savatage, at least as far as new studio music is concerned. Jon Oliva has kept us company through his solo albums, but even those have not returned for many years now. Latest update is that a final, farewell LP is being worked upon, but a recent injury of Jon among other health issues delayed that. Let’s hope that at some point we will get something that will be on par with their discography, because we are talking about one of the most important metal bands EVER!
